IEC Insurance is a specialised travel insurance policy designed specifically for participants in the International Experience Canada (IEC) program. This working holiday visa insurance provides comprehensive coverage that meets all Canadian government requirements, ensuring you are protected during your stay in Canada. Our IEC insurance covers emergency medical expenses, trip cancellations, personal liability, and more, giving Australian and New Zealand travellers peace of mind while enjoying their working holiday in Canada.
It all started in 2005 when our founder returned home to Australia from a year-long stint working as a gap year assistant in an international boarding school in England. Hungry to get the next generation of youngsters to jump ship and experience life beyond Oz, he planted the Letz Live seed whilst juggling a University degree – all at the spritely age of 18.
Fast forward almost two decades, and Letz Live / Letz Travel has grown into a global leader in overseas opportunities for young people, offering Gap Year and Working Holiday programs that inspire adventure, cultural exchange, and personal growth.

You may be refused entry if you don’t have insurance. If your insurance policy is valid for less time than your expected stay in Canada, you may be issued a work permit that expires at the same time as your insurance (which may be less than the two years that you intended).
To apply for an IEC visa (International Experience Canada), you need to start by creating a profile on the Government of Canada immigration website. Once eligible, you’ll receive an invitation to apply for a working holiday visa. The application process involves submitting documents such as a police clearance certificate, proof of funds, and proof of comprehensive IEC travel insurance. Ensure that your IEC insurance policy is ready, as having the right coverage is a key requirement for visa approval. The entire process can be managed online, making it easy for Australian and New Zealand travellers to apply for their Canadian working holiday visa.
While you can purchase a new policy to cover an extended stay, immigration officers require proof of insurance covering your entire intended duration upon entry to Canada. If your original policy only covers 12 months, your work permit may be issued for a shorter period, and you won’t be able to extend it, even with new insurance. To avoid this, we strongly recommend choosing a 24-month policy upfront, ensuring your work permit matches your IEC visa’s full validity.
Yes, our IEC travel insurance policies provide worldwide coverage, meaning you’re protected during side trips to other countries and before or after your stay in Canada. However, coverage is subject to general exclusions, such as travel to countries with government-issued “Do Not Travel” advisories. Whether you’re exploring the USA, Europe, or heading home via another destination, you can travel confidently knowing you’re covered.
